Why Belfast sinks chip
Belfast and butler sinks are heavy fireclay with a glazed surface. Dropped pans, crockery and taps knock chips off the rim, front apron and around the waste, exposing the clay body underneath.
Why repair rather than replace
Taking out a Belfast sink often means disturbing the worktop, the cabinet and the plumbing, and a replacement may not match your existing size. A repair is done in place, usually in a few hours.
How it’s repaired
The chip is cleaned and filled, shaped to the original profile, then colour-matched to the glaze and polished so it blends in. See kitchen sink and door repair.
When to replace
A crack that leaks or runs through the base of the sink is a structural problem, and replacement is the safer option.
